The “Sex and the City” actress added that manicures were unnecessary for her character because they “seemed (a) futile because it would always be messed up and (b) an obstacle on the speedy road toward thoughts being written.” ”She would have learned typing in high school, and she was a practical writer and a necessary writer and a romantic writer.” “Carrie’s a writer, so she would have been typing originally on a proper typewriter,” Parker said. 8/22/2023 0 Comments Ghost tabby catPlayful and friendly, Korat cats tend to get along well with everyone including kids, other cats, and well behaved dogs. These kitties love attention, and they enjoy being involved in every aspect of household management: Whether you're fixing lunch, cleaning up after dinner, folding laundry, or catching up on your favorite show, the Korat cat will be on hand to offer advice and a helping paw.Ī little less chatty than the Siamese, the Korat might greet you a chirping meow or give you an insistent tap when you aren't offering quite enough attention. Korat cats are closely related to Siamese, and share some of their cousin's most endearing personality traits. Whether you're in search of good fortune or if you're simply hoping to grace your home with a loving, intelligent cat, the Korat may be the perfect pet! This is among the rarest of all cat breeds, so you’ll certainly count yourself fortunate when you find the perfect Korat kitten to spoil. doi:10.1111/j. blue-gray fur is only the beginning: The Korat cat is considered to be a living good luck charm in it's native Thailand. “The Tabby cat locus maps to feline chromosome B1.” Animal genetics vol. “Specifying and sustaining pigmentation patterns in domestic and wild cats.” Science (New York, N.Y.) vol. “Defining and mapping mammalian coat pattern genes: multiple genomic regions implicated in domestic cat stripes and spots.” Genetics vol. In the next article I will talk about the colorpoints cats: stay tuned to know more about cat furs!Įizirik, Eduardo et al. Here is everything you need to know about tabbies and their pattern. There is still much to learn about the genetic behind the different tabby patterns! Similarly, the other tabby patterns of the Bengal and Sokoke could be the influence of some “wild” modifiers. I will describe more in detail all the Bengal-specific tabby patterns in a detailed article on breed-specific cat colors. These patterns were then improved and selected through selective breeding. This breed has an additional tabby pattern because it was hybridized with wild cats: this brought new genes for the new tabby pattern. The Bengal breed has two specific tabby patterns: the rosetted, which is a subcategory of the spotted tabby, and marble tabby, a subcategory of the blotched tabby. In addition to those, we can find some other patterns which are often an intermediate between two of the main ones, or patterns which are specific to some cat breeds such as the rosette and marble of the Bengal cat, or the Sokoke marbled pattern.įor example, broken mackerel is an intermediate between a mackerel tabby and a spotted tabby: these cats have broken stripes or long spots, depending on the point of view. The four main tabby patterns are not the only ones we can find in tabby cats. Cats called “brown tabby” are genetically black tabby That’s why in many cat fancies black tabbies are called brown tabbies, but they shouldn’t be confused with the chocolate genetic color. Tabby cats usually look clearer than their equivalent solid color because of the agouti hairs. For example, in a chocolate tabby, the markings are composed of hairs with a chocolate color, while the agouti hairs have bands of chocolate and light reddish chocolate. Tabby cats can come in any existing cat colors, such as black, blue, chocolate, lilac, cinnamon, and fawn. When a cat has a tabby pattern, the dark markings are made of solid hairs of the base color while the fur in between the markings is composed of agouti hairs. So, a fur composed of agouti hairs has a clearer color than a solid one. An agouti hair is composed of several bands of colors: a dark one with the base color of the cat, alternately with lighter and more reddish ones. The previous articles in the series covered:Ī tabby cat is a cat that has agouti hairs. What's the color of your cat? To answer this question, in this third article in my series on cat coats we are going to talk about all the types of markings a cat can have, and the genetics behind them. 8/22/2023 0 Comments Mcfarlane gotham knightsJason has trained to reach the peak of human strength, and he's proficient in multiple combat techniques with all manner of weapons - both traditional and high-tech. Compared to the graphics you will find in other simulators, I believe paying the $10 is worth it to fly in the scenarios provided in the DRL Simulator. Once you complete the training, it’s time to try the “real flight.” What I love about the DRL drone simulator is the wide range of scenarios in which you can fly your drone from stadiums, Air Force bone yards, campgrounds, and New York gates to container deports. The DRL Simulator uses a custom-made drone, unlike any drone you may have seen from popular drone manufacturers, but the physics are similar to an actual drone. Before you can start flying freestyle or through race tracks, you can go through the training where you are trained on basic drone movements and how to combine all these movements to go through loops or pop balloons placed along a track. I love the DRL simulator for the comprehensive training it offers. I purchased this simulator in June 2022 and only paid $2.99 for it. I know this is a post about free drone simulators, but I had to include DRL since it costs less than $10 to get it on your PC. If you get good at the simulator, you get to try out for the actual racing league within the simulator! This one’s my favorite and one that I play all the time.Īs its name suggests, the DRL simulator is made by the same people behind the Drone Racing League, one of the largest professional drone racing leagues. 8/22/2023 0 Comments Hidden figures movie timeIn Margot Lee Shetterly's book, Hidden Figures, she writes about a cardboard sign on one of the tables in the back of NASA Langley's cafeteria during the early 1940s that read, "COLORED COMPUTERS." "At the time the black women came to work at Langley, this was a time of segregation," says Hidden Figures author Margot Lee Shetterly. Katherine proved to be so smart that she skipped several grades, graduating high school at age 14 and from West Virginia State College at 18. He did this for eight years, so that each of his four children could go to high school and college. He rented a house for the family to stay during the school year and journeyed back and forth to White Sulphur Springs for his job at a hotel. Katherine's father, Joshua, was determined to see his children reach their potential, so he drove the family 120 miles to Institute, West Virginia, where blacks could pursue an education past the eighth grade, through high school, and into college. When southern legislatures passed laws of racial segregation directed against African Americans at the end of the 19th century, these statutes became known as Jim Crow laws. As a result of Rice's fame, Jim Crow had become by 1838 a pejorative expression meaning "Negro". Rice in blackface, first performed in 1828. The origin of the phrase "Jim Crow" has often been attributed to " Jump Jim Crow", a song-and-dance caricature of black people performed by white actor Thomas D. The term appears in 1892 in the title of a New York Times article about Louisiana requiring segregated railroad cars. The earliest known use of the phrase "Jim Crow law" can be dated to 1884 in a newspaper article summarizing congressional debate. In general, the remaining Jim Crow laws were overturned by the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. In some states, it took many years to implement this decision, while the Warren Court continued to rule against Jim Crow legislation in other cases such as Heart of Atlanta Motel, Inc. Supreme Court in the landmark case Brown v. In 1954, segregation of public schools (state-sponsored) was declared unconstitutional by the U.S. After the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was founded in 1909, it became involved in a sustained public protest and campaigns against the Jim Crow laws, and the so-called "separate but equal" doctrine. Far from equality, as a body of law, Jim Crow institutionalized economic, educational, political and social disadvantages and second class citizenship for most African Americans living in the United States. Moreover, public education had essentially been segregated since its establishment in most of the South after the Civil War in 1861–1865.Īlthough in theory, the "equal" segregation doctrine was extended to public facilities and transportation too, facilities for African Americans were consistently inferior and underfunded compared to facilities for white Americans sometimes, there were no facilities for the black community at all. Ferguson, in which the Supreme Court laid out its " separate but equal" legal doctrine concerning facilities for African Americans. Jim Crow laws were upheld in 1896 in the case of Plessy vs. In practice, Jim Crow laws mandated racial segregation in all public facilities in the states of the former Confederate States of America and in some others, beginning in the 1870s. Southern laws were enacted by white Southern Democrat-dominated state legislatures to disenfranchise and remove political and economic gains made by African Americans during the Reconstruction era. Formal and informal segregation policies were present in other areas of the United States as well, even if several states outside the South had banned discrimination in public accommodations and voting. Such laws remained in force until the 1960s. The Jim Crow laws were state and local laws introduced in the Southern United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries that enforced racial segregation, "Jim Crow" being a pejorative term for an African-American. 8/21/2023 0 Comments Camping near assateague islandSeptember 24: National Public Lands DayĬomplete information on fees on the national seashore are here.August 4: Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act.
